William Harrison Ainsworth letters. [1839?]-1868.

Ainsworth writes to Laman Blanchard, Saturday, 19 January [1839?], reminding him of a dinner engagement with Dickens, Forster, and Jordan; to Richard Cobbold, 16 June 1854, inviting him to join him and some literary friends for dinner; to My dear Buckley, 24 July 1850, inviting him to dine before a visit to Lady MacCaine; to Dear Sir, 3 August 1855, concerning payment to John Crawford Wilson for the conclusion of his tale "Benjamin Bobbin the Bagman" [later revised and expanded to become his novel, Jonathan Oldaker (London: R. Bentley, 1856)], being serialized in Bentley's miscellany. He writes to Dear Sir, 6 February 1863, referring him to the Chatham Library for a copy of Nathaniel Hodges's book on the London plague of 1665; and to his friend James Crossley, 13 February 1868, noting that he has just finished writing his novel Myddleton Pomfret and is at a loss for a good subject for his next book and asks for suggestions [for what would become Constable de Bourbon].
